Randal Grichuk has been the spark for Chicago, going 10 for 25 with two homers in the same window. The difference will come down to who makes the big play when the bases are loaded.
Pitching Duel Sets the Tone
Monday’s matchup features a battle of starters who know how to win. Sean Newcomb takes the mound for the White Sox with a 2.77 ERA, while Gavin Williams leads the Guardians with 228 strikeouts and a 3.78 ERA. Cleveland’s bullpen and rotation have been their anchor all year. “Our starting pitching and bullpen have been our staples all year, that’s what keeps us in games and wins games,” Vogt said.
The energy in Cleveland is palpable. “The energy carried over, the vibe in the dugout before the game, during the game and through the first three innings was outstanding,” Vogt noted. The Guardians are 36-39 at home, but they play fast. Chicago is 33-42 on the road, showing a clear struggle away from home.
Injuries loom for both sides. Rhys Hoskins is out for Cleveland with a back issue, while Tanner Murray misses time for Chicago with a shoulder problem. These absences tighten the rosters for a critical series. The White Sox lead the season series 6-4, but the current form favors the hosts.
