The biggest secret behind the Packers’ 31-7 blowout of the Bears on Sunday wasn’t a hidden playbook or a trick play. It was the trash talk itself. Christian Watson, the Packers’ star wide receiver, admitted that the verbal jabs from Chicago did not distract his team. Instead, that noise became the fuel that drove them to a massive victory.

Watson told Fox Sports NFL who posted on X that the rivalry talk added a special kind of energy to the game. “There was definitely some extra juice,” the 27-year-old receiver said. He explained that the back-and-forth comments get the whole locker room buzzing. “Obviously, that gets kind of going around the locker room,” Watson noted. “And it just brings the energy and the vibes up.”

Turning Words Into Yardage

While some teams might get distracted by the heat, Green Bay used it to sharpen their focus. Watson said the players knew exactly what they needed to do before they stepped on the field. “We watched the film,” Watson told ESPN. “We saw the opportunities there, regardless of how good they were in other games against certain teams.”

The plan worked perfectly on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Watson caught six passes for 143 yards and scored two touchdowns. His first score was a 42-yard grab, and his second was a spectacular 53-yard catch in the third quarter. According to Yahoo Sports, Watson reached over the defender, took a hit, and slid into the end zone while keeping control of the ball. “We knew what was going to be there and took advantage of it today,” Watson added.

The Play That Had Everyone Talking

The 53-yard touchdown was the moment that defined the game. Bears safety Dillon Thieneman closed in on Watson, but the receiver stayed calm. Watson described the play after the game, noting “I wasn’t thinking too much.” He said, “Just go get it and came down with it.”

He admitted that when he watched the replay later, he felt the defender should have made the play. “Honestly, I was kind of joking around with some of the guys after, that’s just one of those ones that you watch it back on tape, and you’re like, ‘The DB should’ve broken it up or it should’ve been incomplete,'” Watson said. “Sometimes, you just find a way.”

Backing Up the Smack Talk

The Packers’ offense did not just talk the game; they proved they could execute under pressure. Watson emphasized that their words on the field matched their actions. “You gotta have some smack talk every now and then,” he said. “We talked our talk, and then we walked the walk, too.”

This win helped the Packers climb back to a 3-2 record after losing to Minnesota and Atlanta earlier. The team responded with wins over Tampa Bay and Chicago. Watson and teammate Matthew Golden combined for 266 total receiving yards, showing that the offense has found its rhythm. The Bears now face a tough test on Sunday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
