Bulls Defense Must Fix League-Worst Leaks Before Monday

Chicago faces a 6-1 Sixers team with the NBA's worst defense. Can they stop the leak or will Monday's game expose the rebuild?

The Chicago Bears are sitting pretty at 4-2, a record that puts them in third place within the NFC North, according to Yahoo Sports. Should the season conclude at this moment, Chicago secures the NFC No. 6 seed to play the Carolina Panthers in the playoffs. That matchup feels familiar for fans who remember the high-scoring shootout in the season opener where the Bears poured up 59 points against Carolina.

That opening game saw the Panthers score 37 points, but the current Bears squad looks different. Week 6 saw them defeat the Atlanta Falcons 31-23, maintaining their momentum. This win came as a huge relief for the fanbase after they took a brutal 31-7 loss to division rival Green Bay the week before. The team needed this bounce-back to prove they can handle pressure.

Key Players Return to Action

The biggest story isn’t just the win, but who stepped back onto the field. Caleb Williams, Ozzy Trapilo, and Kyler Gordon all returned from injury to help secure the victory. Williams hadn’t played since Week 2 because of a hamstring issue, yet he threw for 305 yards and a touchdown in the win. He completed 30 of 36 passes, showing he can run the offense even after sitting out for weeks.

Although a patellar tendon injury suggested Trapilo would miss most of the year, he debuted in 2026 on Sunday. Starting on the Bears’ field-goal unit, he earned a spot in the offensive line rotation. Gordon played for the first time in 2026 after dealing with a soft-tissue injury that carried into the regular season. He finished with three sacks, four total tackles, and four tackles for loss, according to Yahoo Sports.

The roster moves didn’t stop there. According to A to Z Sports, five players debuted for the Bears during Week 6. The team had to activate Gordon, Shemar Turner, and Noah Sewell to get them ready. Another roster spot must be cleared to reinstate Montez Sweat from the suspended list.

Running Game Shifts and Playoff Math

Kyle Monangai, the second-year running back, suffered an injury that compelled backfield shifts. While D’Andre Swift remained the top back, Monangai’s absence allowed Roschon Johnson 18 carries across the last two weeks. He has become a more vital part of the offense as the team adjusts.

The playoff picture in the NFC is wild right now. The San Francisco 49ers hold the top seed at 6-0 and will skip the first round of the playoffs. A rare occurrence has the NFC North with all four teams currently in the playoffs. The Detroit Lions would travel to face the Minnesota Vikings, while the Packers would take on the New York Giants. Currently holding the No. 6 seed, the Bears would play the Panthers if standings remain unchanged.

Chicago has a tough road ahead with games against the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks on the schedule. They will host the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday Night Football three weeks from now.
