Bulls Pace Stat Shows Why Chicago’s Fast Start Is A Trap

The Bulls lead the NBA in pace but rank second in turnover points allowed. Speed without control is costing Chicago wins.

The Chicago Bulls need to stop waiting and start hunting. The Orlando Magic are sitting on a powder keg, and the fuse is lit. CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn laid out the harsh reality on The Third Apron podcast. He warned that Orlando is closing in on a second-apron crisis. The roster features excessive high-salaried stars whose winning records fail to support their costs. Quinn suggests the Magic should trade Paolo Banchero right now to avoid a value slide. This is exactly the kind of fire sale Chicago needs to exploit.

The Brown Precedent

History shows us how bad these situations get. Look at the Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown. Boston traded Brown for what seemed like pennies on the dollar. They did it because they refused to let two players eat up 70% of the cap space. The Magic are inching closer to that same painful spot. Next summer, they must extend Anthony Black while already pressed against the cap limit. Quinn thinks they should move Banchero to save themselves from a similar disaster. If the Magic make him available, the price could be lower than anyone expects. That is the window the Bulls must watch.

Why Banchero Fits the Rebuild

At this stage of their rebuild, the Bulls must keep an eye out for star talent. They are trying to form a solid foundation, and Banchero is the centerpiece they need. He has flaws, sure, but his scoring prowess is undeniable. His ability to attack the rim, break down defensive schemes, and generate scoring opportunities for partners is unmatched. That skill set does not come around often. The fit with the current group is less than ideal on paper. Only two forward slots would be available despite having three candidates for those spots. But the team could work around that. Matas Buzelis could slide to shooting guard. Or Caleb Wilson could play a small-ball five. Banchero, Wilson, and Buzelis might all play on the floor simultaneously. The point is simple. Banchero is a star who makes an impact on offense. He would put butts in seats. With Wilson and Buzelis providing leadership, he could assist the Bulls in achieving their next major advancement.

The Risk of Doing Nothing

The Bulls should target Banchero regardless of how clean the fit looks. He is the type of young player worth taking a swing on. The front office has to be bold. If the price is right, they should go after him immediately. The only catch is whether the Magic will actually make him available. Quinn notes this probably will not happen unless they are in a rough spot at the deadline. But if the Magic panic about the cap and the second apron, the Bulls must be ready. Waiting for a perfect trade is a losing game. The opportunity to grab a young star for a fraction of his value might only come once. The Bulls cannot afford to miss it.
