The Chicago Bulls finally have a centerpiece. Caleb Wilson is not just a rookie; he is the star the franchise needed. Per Yahoo Sports, the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft is averaging 20.8 points and 7.0 rebounds. These numbers are not a fluke. He is the real deal.

Wilson has already faced the league’s toughest teams. He played against the defending champion New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics in his first two weeks. The results speak for themselves. He dropped 30 points and 14 rebounds in his home debut against the Washington Wizards. Since Terry Cummings in 1982, no NBA player had reached those marks in his first three games until that performance made him the first to do so. The front office must stop looking for trades and start building around this kid.

The Process Is Working

Wilson knows he is learning every day. “For me I’m just a kid. It’s never going to not feel crazy to me…I wanted to do that my whole life so every time I go into the arena and play, I play to the best of my ability,” he added in an interview. This mindset is exactly what Chicago needs. He is not overwhelmed by the bright lights of Madison Square Garden or the pressure of playing Jayson Tatum.

He has been in the mix for rookie of the season. His stats put him behind only Cameron Boozer and Yaxel Lendeborg. But Wilson is playing on a team that has only won one game. Despite the 1-4 record, he keeps putting up solid numbers. He scored 20 points against New York, including eight in the fourth quarter to keep the game close. Even when he struggled with his shot, going 7-of-18, he found a way to impact the game. That is the DNA of a future champion.

Clear The Roster For Him

The Bulls need to clear the deck for Wilson to grow. Per Pippen Ain’t Easy, the team needs to move Josh Giddey ASAP. Giddey does not fit with Wilson on offense or defense. The current roster is holding back the new star. The front office made a mistake by keeping players from the old regime. It is time to make a decisive trade.

Wilson is already showing he can handle the NBA pace. He reached double-digits in each of his first five contests. He scored 30 points in his home debut and hit the 20-point mark against the defending champions. The Bulls should not wait for the future.
