The Chicago Bears just made a massive splash by trading for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, but they are not done yet. This move signals a clear shift in strategy for the franchise. They are going all-in to win right now. Jordan Schultz claims that “Chicago’s all-in move will cause other teams to react and try to be bold as well.” The front office is not slowing down just because they landed a star inside.

The Mack Connection Remains Strong

Many fans think the Simmons deal ends the pass-rush search. They are wrong. The Bears are still actively pursuing Khalil Mack from the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Heavy.com.

Mack knows the system and the city. The math works for Chicago too. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN clarifies that the acquiring team would assume the prorated portion of his $8 million salary to finish his one-year deal. That is a cheap price for an elite edge rusher who played for Chicago from 2018 to 2021.

Chargers Hold the Line

The Los Angeles Chargers are sitting at 0-6, yet they are not selling their veterans. Albert Breer reports that the Chargers have “shut down trade inquiries for their veterans.” This creates a tough spot for the Bears. If Chicago wants Mack, they will have to pay a premium. The Ravens’ unsuccessful trade attempt with the Raiders established Maxx Crosby’s value at two first-round picks. That sets a high bar for any elite edge rusher on the market.

The deadline is set for November 10th. Chicago possesses its own second- and third-round selections in the 2027 NFL draft, plus the fifth-rounder belonging to the Atlanta Falcons. They have the assets to make a deal happen. Ryan Poles is known for being aggressive, and he is backing that up with action. The defense needs to be dominant if the team wants to support the young quarterback. With Simmons inside and Mack potentially outside, the unit transforms from good to elite.
