The nightmare of navigating Soldier Field traffic without a shortcut is finally over. For the first time in over a decade, the free shuttle service from the Millennium Park garage is returning for the new season. Last year, this easy way to reach the stadium vanished without warning, leaving thousands of fans stuck in a massive headache. But the buses are back, and they look a lot better than the old school bus style.

A Massive Win for the Fans

Losing that service was a huge mistake. According to CBS News, Millennium Garages chief revenue officer Paul Sanett admitted, “It was a horrible decision to make. I mean, we knew this was a beloved service. As soon as we paused it, we heard back from the fans almost immediately that this was something they loved and they really wanted us to keep running.” It’s great to see the decision reversed. The new setup uses upgraded coaches instead of old school buses, a change that matters when you’re trying to move a crowd efficiently. The math on this is simple: up to 3,000 fans will be transported to each home game by roughly a dozen buses. These coaches will use private access roads to bypass the usual gameday gridlock, which is a smart way to get from the garage to the 18th Street turnaround in just minutes. For every one of the nine home games this season, Geico is providing sponsorship for the service. According to reports, the operation will prove efficient and effective while remaining free, which is the best part. Fans don’t have to pay a penny to use it.

Getting Ready for the Home Opener

The energy in the city is already climbing. ABC7 Chicago reported that excitement is building for the home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Ticket prices are already high, ranging from $250 to $400 according to some websites. Having a free way to get to the stadium helps offset those costs. Departing from the Lower Randolph garage, the buses transport passengers to the vicinity of the 18th Street Pedestrian Bridge. Service starts three hours before kickoff and runs until two hours after the game ends. Everything is lining up for a big year. The team just crushed the Carolina Panthers 59 to 37 in a recent road win. Now, the focus shifts to seeing Caleb Williams and the new squad in person. Fans like Ida Roldan are already feeling the hope. She told ABC7 Chicago, “We made the playoffs last year. So go Bears!”
